May 20th - Autobahn South with AMS. I am signed up. Busy weekend with Blackhawk the next day.
June 22nd - Blackhawk with MSCC. Great time on Friday so I am thinking about going again, plus I love the track.

I hate not being able to run track days in my Z. Makes me regret somewhat having a ragg top until the sun comes out, the breeze is in my face and the sense of being one with the environment overwelms the momentary loss of reality. Oh well, I'll suffer.

papa, some events allow verts (Lotus Corps allows them in novice group, you could check with AMS on their events too...) and there is always the roll bar option.
Actually, the rental track cars at autobahn are Z3's with cage.

The accepted "cage" is commonly referred to as the swingset and makes it impossible to put the top up. If I get to the point where I am willing to concede that function, I might as well buy an M coupe or M3, neither of which is a bad idea but would not sit well with the wife since I am not giving up the current ride. I will check out the Lotus Corps and AMS for the next open track sessions and should have gone to the one at Blackhawk when I had the chance. Wasn't sure I wanted to blow the tires, pads and other wearables but am now less concerned.

Have you considered a dedicated track day car like an older Miata that you could add maybe a HardDog roll bar to? Some of the first generation Miatas (90-92) can be had pretty cheaply, and although it's not going to have quite the straight line performance your Z3 has they are a TON of fun to drive. If you're not worried about being the absolute fastest guy at the track, something like this might be quite freeing for the conscience to toss around a road course.
I know the CRX that I have isn't the fastest car out there when I take it to the track (far from it) - but not many people have more fun than me!

Oddly enough, Hard Dog bars are becoming less and less accepted. More importantly, if I install one and still don't pass the broomstick rule, what have I got. An aftermarket roll bar which can accept harness but no ability to run track. Very frustrating. What I've give at times to be a regular sized guy who can fit in cars without a hassle. By the way, I've seen these units close up and they are nice.

If you are really tall and the harddog doesn't fit then you will prob have to sacrifice the convertible top. I believe harddog usually shoots to get the highest bar without sacraficing the vert top.
